Selecting the right mirror requires a balance of proportion, light, and interior aesthetics. Use this guide to choose the perfect size, shape, and finish for any room in your home.

1. Universal Sizing Formulas

A mirror should complement surrounding furniture without overwhelming or under scaling the wall.

  • Width Rule: Choose a mirror that measures 60% to 80% of the width of the furniture below it (such as a console, dining credenza, or vanity).

  • Clearance Space: Leave 6 to 8 inches of breathing room between the bottom of the mirror frame and the top of your furniture.

  • Eye-Level Placement: For standalone walls, position the center of the mirror roughly 57 to 60 inches from the floor.
