Mirror Installation Guide

Securing an oversized or artisanal mirror requires precise measurement, correct hardware selection, and proper structural anchor techniques. Follow this comprehensive guide to safely install your Antok Signature piece across various wall types.

1. Universal Mounting Rules

  • Two-Person Lift: Always handle statement mirrors with two people to maintain control and avoid sudden shifts in weight distribution.

  • Never Use Picture Wire: Suspended wire concentrates immense stress on hardware attachment points, risking frame torque or bracket failure over time. Mount directly to back-installed D-rings or French cleats.

  • Surface Preparation: Clear a soft, carpeted, or padded workspace to lay the mirror face-down during hardware alignment and measurement checks.

2. Wall Type & Anchor Selection

Matching your mounting hardware to your specific wall construction is critical for long-term load-bearing safety:

Wood Studs (Drywall Over Frame) Heavy-Duty Wood Screws (Direct-to-Stud) Best option. Secures max weight capacity without hollow-wall reliance.
Hollow Drywall / Sheetrock Heavy-Duty Toggle Bolts or Metal SnapToggles Spreads weight behind the board. Do not use plastic expansion plugs.
Concrete / Masonry / Brick Concrete Sleeve Anchors or Tapcon Screws Requires pre-drilling with a masonry drill bit before setting hardware.
Tile / Marble Over Drywall Diamond-Tip Drilled Hole + Toggle Bolt Drill slowly through tile, then secure into the backing wall structure.

3. Installation Methods

Method A: French Cleat System (Recommended for Heavy & Oversized Pieces)

  1. Locate & Mark Wall Position: Hold the wall-side cleat bracket against the wall at your desired height. Place a bubble level along its top edge to ensure perfect alignment.

  2. Mark Drill Points: Pencil through the pre-drilled bracket holes onto the wall surface.

  3. Set Anchors & Fasten: Drill pilot holes, insert appropriate anchors for your wall type, and drive screws through the cleat until fully flush.

  4. Interlock & Lower: Lift the mirror so the frame-mounted cleat sits slightly above the wall cleat, then slide it down slowly until both track edges fully interlock.

Method B: D-Ring Dual Hanging Hooks

  1. Measure D-Ring Distance: Measure the exact distance ($D_1$) between the centers of both D-rings on the back of the frame.

  2. Measure Top Offsets: Measure the exact distance ($D_2$) from the top edge of the frame down to the top loop of the D-rings.

  3. Transfer Markings to Wall: Mark two wall points at distance $D_1$ apart, level with each other, dropped $D_2$ down from your intended top-of-frame line.

  4. Install Heavy Hooks: Fasten two heavy-duty wall anchors/hooks directly into your marked points and rest each D-ring securely over its respective hook.

4. Recommended Clearance & Heights

  • Above Console Tables / Vanity Units: Position the bottom edge of the frame 6–8 inches above the furniture top to create visual balance.

  • Above Mantelpieces: Position the frame 4–6 inches above the fireplace mantel shelf.

  • Standalone Eye-Level Hanging: Center the middle point of the glass roughly 57–60 inches from the floor.
